Semester GPA Calculator
Semester GPA covers only the classes in your current term—not every credit you have ever earned. If you leave the prior-GPA fields blank on the homepage tool, the big number is your semester average. That is the figure students often watch during midterms and finals week.
Steps for a clean semester estimate
- Go to the GPA calculator on the homepage.
- Add each course with its grade (letter or percent) and credit hours from your schedule.
- Pick Weighted if this term includes Honors/AP/IB, or Unweighted for a plain 4.0 map.
- Leave Prior cumulative GPA and Prior credits empty unless you also want a new cumulative projection.
Credit hours matter: a 4-credit lab pulls harder than a 1-credit seminar. Use the hours printed on your schedule, not “1” for every row, unless that is how your school counts. After you calculate, expand per-course quality points to see which classes moved the average most.
Semester vs cumulative
Semester = this term only. Cumulative folds in earlier credits. To estimate both, fill prior GPA + prior credits on the same form—the tool shows semester GPA and an updated cumulative side by side, plus a weighted vs unweighted compare.
Unofficial estimate. Not your school’s official GPA. Scales and weighting rules vary — confirm with your handbook or registrar.
FAQ
What is semester GPA?
Semester GPA is the credit-weighted average of grades for the current term only, excluding prior coursework.
How do I calculate only this term on WeightedGPACalc?
Enter this term’s courses on the homepage calculator and leave prior GPA and prior credits blank.
Do credits change semester GPA?
Yes. GPA = Σ(points × credits) ÷ Σ(credits), so higher-credit courses have more influence.
Can I include weighted classes in a semester GPA?
Yes. Choose Weighted mode and set each course type (Regular, Honors, AP, or IB) before you calculate.
